WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?!

So I just went to see the new superman film. I'ma keep it short and I'ma keep in 100. Incredibly mid. At best it 'wasn't great'. So many great ideas, bad execution. I feel like the casting for most so was so strange e.g lex luther and few others. I actually liked the casting of superman, though he's no Henry Cavil (Talking more on that later). But in all honesty the biggest issue other then a poor script and a villan having a lack of motivation is the world. The wolrd doesn't feel real. It seems that in mordern movies (Espeically super hero ones) the characters don't even take their world seriously, making jokes that arn't funny in serious moments. Like there were times when I feel the movie was trying to be serious but the characters wouldn't be. I don't think superman (the movie) actually knows what it wants to be. The tone is everywhere. And the world just isn't believable. Jokes are corny, characters are 2 dimentional. I genuinly belive the only reason people like this movie is because DC hasn't released a good movie in a long time. Superman just felt like DC taking a poor attempt to make a marvel movie. Saying that, it was entertaining. There were some really cool ideas and there were actually a few things a liked about it, but the lack of a real plot, surface level characters, low stakes and an aesthetic which is played out to death in modern movies with zero personality, this movie really isn't it. (I could defiantly dive deeper into a proper review, so If you'd really like me to dive deep, let me know, but I just needed to get this off my chest).

I have just come home and I decided to slap on 'Man of steel'. I'm not going to lie, though it isn't the greatest movie in the world, I genuinly feel that it is the closest depiction of a great superman movie we have had thus far. This movie is actually hard. A movie made in a time when people actually cared about making believable worlds. They constantly show and don't tell. The characters are deep and complex. The world is dark and gritty and real. The moments are epic. When I watch man of steel, as a man, It make me want to be superman. As any super hero movie should! This movie has an edge which I feel like all movies of this kind need. I don't know when it happened but movies just aren't edgy anymore. There is no risk. I genuinly miss old super hero moives in that they made it feel like they could actually be real. Think the first iron man. It was so grounded in reality, with realistic dialogue, characters really going through real emotions, deaing with the responsibilities of beng a hero whilst still trying to keep their own personal relationships intacts. Dealing with how the world perceives them. There is so much depth in these old superhero films: Man of steel, Iron man, Spider man (Toby's). Even then incredibles deals with the super hero thing in a mature way with dark themes.

All this to say... I am sick of super hero movies not taking themselves seriously. They're a joke and they often make fun of themselves. I miss movies with edge. Movies that take risks. Movies which are grounded in humanity. Superheros I can actually look up to, because of the way they're portrayed. Like I just watched the scene in man of steel where he gets the suit and flies for the first time... FAM! I want to be this superman! Like when he is shirtless it makes me look at my self and realise I want to have a better physic. Everything about this superman speaks so much to me and the aestetic has so much personality and really is grounded in reality. It's real.

The question shouldn't be "Hey, what if we made a superman movie". The question should be "What if we made superman real?" This is the movie that should made every time.

For those who this doesn't resonate with right now... Trust me. One day you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
